SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Sistani answered a question about feeding children in day nursery in non-Islamic country. Question: I live in France and have a two year old son who goes to a day nursery and eats lunch there. From the start I requested that no meat must be given to him because the meat is not slaughtered according to Islam, and so far there was no problem. But recently my son sees that at lunch time the rest eat meat and he also asks for meat, if in day nursery he asks, can he be given meat which is not slaughtered according to Sharia or not? SHAFAQNA – The Education Committee of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria organized 3rd Hajj Seminar at Fudiyyah School Zaria on Saturday 6th of August, 2016. The seminar, organized for intended pilgrims, was aimed at enlighten the pilgrims on Hajj rites with practical demonstration, good conduct, health and safety as well good preparation. Speakers included Prof Isa Hasan Mshelgeru, Sheikh Abddulhameed Bello, Sheikh Qasim Umar Sokoto, Sheikh Abdurrahman Yola. There was Questions and Answer session after the lecture. In his lecture on Hajj preparation and practical demonstration Prof Isa Hasan spoke at length on preparation before leaving for the hajj and on what to carry along with in terms of materials as well as what to avoid in terms of action and utterances. SHAFAQNA – A ceremony was held here in the Iranian capital on Wednesday to present the 3rd Islamic Human Rights Award. Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and a number of other senior officials attended the ceremony held at the IRIB Conference Hall on the occasion of the Inteational Day of Islamic Human Rights and Human Dignity. Senior Bahraini cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassem and Arzu Merali, a founding member of the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC), were announced as the winners of this year’s award. The Iranian Judiciary’s Human Rights Committee holds the event annually to recognize the efforts and achievements of Muslims promoting human rights. In previous years, the award went to activists from Yemen, Syria and Iraq, among others. SHAFAQNA – Recent fighting in South Sudan has forced 37,491 people to flee to Uganda in the past three weeks, averaging more than 4,000 a day in the past week, the United Nations refugee agency waed today. “To put this in context, more refugees have arrived in Uganda in the past three weeks than during the entire first six months of 2016, when 33,838 came there in search of safety,” Adrian Edwards, a spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), told reporters in Geneva. Yesterday, an estimated 2,442 refugees were received in Uganda from South Sudan. More than 90 per cent of arrivals are women and children. “The new arrivals in Uganda are reporting ongoing fighting as well as looting by armed militias, buing down of homes and murders of civilians,” Mr. Edwards said. “Some of the women and children told us they were separated from their husbands or fathers by armed groups, who are reportedly forcibly recruiting men into their ranks and preventing them from crossing the border.” He noted that daily arrivals were averaging around 1,500 just 10 days ago, but have risen to over 4,000 in the past week. People are coming from South Sudan’s Easte Equatoria region, as well as Juba and other areas of the country, he said. The intensity of the recent fighting between rival factions loyal to President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Riek Machar in Juba has subsided, but the security situation remains volatile. “Further surges in arrivals are a real possibility,” he said. The influx is straining the capacity of collection points, and transit and reception centres. Over the weekend, humanitarian organizations worked to decongest the collection points and installed temporary shelters to increase capacities. UNHCR has deployed additional staff, trucks and buses to assist. At its peak, more than 11,000 refugees were staying in Elegu, in northe Uganda, in a compound equipped to shelter only 1,000 people. SHAFAQNA – According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, the National Union of Schools and Quranic Institutes of Senegal invited the Iranian Embassy and Cultural Center in the African country to attend the program titled “jouée coranique” (Quranic Day). The national event will be held on July 30 under the supervision of the Senegalese president and caliphs of various Sufi orders in Senegal. It will be attended by more than 3000 Quranic and cultural figures as well as the citizens. “Quranic Diplomacy” is the motto of the gathering, to be hosted by the Islamic Institute of Dakar. Quran expert and Qari Majid Zakilu will recite some verses from the Holy Quran in the program. The Iranian Cultural Center in Senegal plans to hold an exhibition of Iranian Quranic artworks titled “Quran in the Mirror of Art” on the sidelines of the Quranic gathering. SHAFAQNA – “Europe is seriously ill,” according to Deutsche Bank, and while Italy’s problems have been well-documented recently, analysts told Sputnik that a closer look at German banks reveals that even Europe’s economic powerhouse could find itself financial difficulties. While Brexit seems to have served as a catalyst for Europe’s political crisis, financial experts are waing that a crisis also appears to be brewing on the European financial front.The structural weaknesses that became apparent during the 2008 financial crisis have not been tackled sufficiently, and analysts are worried that Europe’s banks are facing more financial pressure than they can cope with. On Sunday David Folkerts-Landau, lead economist for Deutsche Bank, told German newspaper Die Welt that Europe must take action to tackle its economic problems, or face another crisis. “Europe is seriously ill, and it must urgently address its problems, otherwise something bad will happen,” he waed, and recommended a multibillion euro program of recapitalization for flailing European banks. According to Folkerts-Landau, Europe needs a recapitalization program similar to Troubled Asset Relief Program carried out in the US after the subprime mortgage crisis hit there in 2008. That program authorized the US Treasury to spend $475 billion on toxic assets and equity from struggling financial institutions. “In Europe the program doesn’t have to be so big. European banks can recapitalize themselves with 150 billion euros ($167 billion),” Folkerts-Landau said. Economics professor Guillaume Vuillemey from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris (HEC Paris) told Radio Sputnik France that the problems in Europe’s banking sector are not confined to the more stagnant economies on the south of the continent. SHAFAQNA – The Khoei Foundation in London – a prominent religious institution which has pioneered research and education for the benefit of the Muslim community, in keeping with the teachings and tradition of Shia Islam, celebrated this July the launching of new endeavour. The Khoei Foundation will now train teachers in the fields of religious studies, so that in tu they could spread the teachings of Shia Islam, and help young minds embrace their heritage. For the first time in Great Britain Shia Islam studies will be made available to the greater public. A conference was held this July 14th, at the Khoei Foundation to introduce the program studies and invite scholars and academics to discuss issues of education, and religious studies.
