  • What’s It’s Like Being a Syrian Muslim Who Feels Ignored by the West

  • SHAFAQNA – I’ve changed my profile picture on social media many times since terror came in horrific waves, drowning the world in sorrow over the last year. But I could only use the official Facebook profile filter to show solidarity for Paris since a filter wasn’t available for Aleppo, Lahore, Istanbul, or many other attacks. I am a Syrian Muslim living in Dubai; I lost my home in Damascus at the beginning of the Syrian war in 2011. It saddens me when I read on Facebook that someone on the other side of the world thinks that because of who I am and where I live, I’m used to bombs and terror and therefore not as worthy of sympathy. Maybe that’s because the West is a place where war has been a foreign concept and red is the color of nothing but love. But let’s be clear: the sound of bombs and bullets will never be something I become immune to. I have also read comments on social media that suggest that since ISIS claims they are “Muslim,” all Muslims are bad. • The death of Western democracies: “Censorship is the child of fear and the father of ignorance”

  • SHAFAQNA – It was Eugene O’Neill who said: “Censorship of anything, at anytime, in any place, on whatever pretense has always been and always will be the last resort of the boob and the bigot.” I must say I wholeheartedly agree … and while I found many ideas repulsive and heinous I will never condone those who advocate tyranny by claiming righteousness – not even if in fact they are on the side of righteousness. Freedom remains an elusive concept if any one party claims it absolutely. I would personally argue that Freedom stands an expression of God’s endless mercy, and as such can never be encapsulated, claimed or owned by any one individual, group or faith. Freedom is many and one at the same time – many in that it can be expressed in a multitude of fashions, and one for it speaks of universal concept. I can hear atheists stir in their seats as I mention God. • African exodus – Over 4,000 South Sudanese fleeing into Uganda daily says UN

  • SHAFAQNA – Recent fighting in South Sudan has forced 37,491 people to flee to Uganda in the past three weeks, averaging more than 4,000 a day in the past week, the United Nations refugee agency waed today. “To put this in context, more refugees have arrived in Uganda in the past three weeks than during the entire first six months of 2016, when 33,838 came there in search of safety,” Adrian Edwards, a spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), told reporters in Geneva. Yesterday, an estimated 2,442 refugees were received in Uganda from South Sudan. More than 90 per cent of arrivals are women and children. “The new arrivals in Uganda are reporting ongoing fighting as well as looting by armed militias, buing down of homes and murders of civilians,” Mr. Edwards said. “Some of the women and children told us they were separated from their husbands or fathers by armed groups, who are reportedly forcibly recruiting men into their ranks and preventing them from crossing the border.” He noted that daily arrivals were averaging around 1,500 just 10 days ago, but have risen to over 4,000 in the past week. People are coming from South Sudan’s Easte Equatoria region, as well as Juba and other areas of the country, he said. The intensity of the recent fighting between rival factions loyal to President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Riek Machar in Juba has subsided, but the security situation remains volatile. “Further surges in arrivals are a real possibility,” he said. The influx is straining the capacity of collection points, and transit and reception centres. Over the weekend, humanitarian organizations worked to decongest the collection points and installed temporary shelters to increase capacities. UNHCR has deployed additional staff, trucks and buses to assist. At its peak, more than 11,000 refugees were staying in Elegu, in northe Uganda, in a compound equipped to shelter only 1,000 people. By the end of this past weekend, the centre, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Islamic Unity an Obligation

  • SHAFAQNA- Source:Islamic Unity, in the Light of Speeches of Ayatullah KhameneiCompiled by Hujatul Islam wal Muslimeen Ali Khaliqpur In the opinion of Ayatullah Ali Khamenei the issue of Unity of Muslims is the focal point of Islamic teachings and it should be considered as a religious obligation. In view of misappropriation of discrepancies and differences found amongst Muslims and exploitation of some preliminary religious laws and ordinances by the hands of imperialists and its steady expansion, the Supreme Leader deems it essential to bring the remedy of unity into existence. In fact, if we want to find any solution to the problems of the Islamic world or better to say, if we are making efforts for the dignity and honour of Islam and Quran and for restoration of its grace, then this thing isn’t in any way favourable and conducive with the differences of the Muslims. Imam Khomeini (R.A) continued this mission even before the success of revolution and highly recommended it and after the success of revolution, he put it in the top priority list of the issues.Although the Imperialists had already declared the policy of diversity and division in the top priorities of their objectives, but after the triumph of Islamic revolution and after the centre of Islamic unity came into existence, the activities based on divide and division by America and its allies got further expedited and accelerated. They made the Muslim brethren to fight each other and started ransack and massacre. In the whole Muslim world today the paid writers have made it their profession and strategy to create division among Muslims, spending treasure of wealth and petro dollars of allies of American reactionaries for this purpose. They now it very well that there is power of attraction in Islam and the centre of this revolution may attract the attention of all the Muslims of the world towards itself, therefore it has created a threat for America and Imperialism that their investment for creating division, ...ادامه مطلب
