SHAFAQNA – The first halal hotel in Bangkok is attracting Muslim visitors with the management hoping to tap deeper into a growing market. Nearly 30 million foreign tourists came to Thailand last year but only about 658,000 were from the Middle East, according to industry data. The four-star Al Meroz hotel in Bangkok, which opened in November, hopes to play its part in changing that, and to cash in. “There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. It’s a huge market,” said the hotel’s general manager, Sanya Saengboon. “Just one percent of that market is enough for us to thrive.” The , which boasts mosque-like architecture, has two prayer rooms and three halal dining halls. Rooms cost from 4,000 baht all the way up to 50,000 baht (US$116 to $1,445) a night, said Mr Sanya. SHAFAQNA- Octopuses are notorious escape artists, able to squeeze and squish themselves into and around nearly any obstacle they encounter. In an ode to these crafty cephalopods, researchers have created the first completely soft-bodied robot, dubbed the “octobot.” The palm-sized machine’s exterior is made of silicone. And whereas other soft robots have had at least a few hard parts, such as batteries or wires, the octobot uses a small reservoir of hydrogen peroxide as fuel. When the hydrogen peroxide washes over flecks of platinum embedded within the octobot, the resulting chemical reaction produces gas that inflates and flexes the robot’s arms. SHAFAQNA – A halal supermarket in a Paris suburb has been told by local authorities it must start selling alcohol and pork or else it will be shut down. Good Price discount mini-market in Colombes has been told by the local housing authority, from which it rents its premises, that it has not followed the conditions on the lease that stipulate that the shop must act as a “general food store.” The authority argues that all members of the local community are not being served properly if there are no alcohol or pork products in the Good Price store, which is run as a franchise and which last year replaced another small supermarket. “The mayor of Colombes, Nicole Goueta, went there herself and asked the owner to diversify the range of products by adding alcohol and non-halal meats,” the mayor’s chief of staff, Jérôme Besnard, told The Telegraph. He said locals, particularly older residents, had complained that they could no longer get the full range of products at Good Price, which replaced a regular supermarket, and had to travel some distance now to do their shopping. “We want a social mix. We don’t want any area that is only Muslim or any area where there are no Muslims,” Mr Besnard said, adding that the town’s reaction would have been the same had a kosher shop opened on that spot. The Colombes housing authority argues that the store breaches French republican principles by prioritising a certain group within society rather than catering to all categories. It has taken legal action to bring an end to the lease which would normally run until 2019. The case goes to court in October. Soulemane Yalcin, who runs the shop under franchise, said he was merely catering to the demands of his customers in this area of large public housing estates. “It’s business,” said Mr Yalcin. “I look around me and I target what I see. SHAFAQNA – During a series of lectures in Mashhad, Grand Ayatollah Ja’far Sobhani emphasized that all scholars and intellectuals protect their historic places and monuments as a means of maintaining their civilization as well as their culture and explained the Quranic reasons supporting the idea of maintaining ancient Islamic monuments and said, “The West has doubts regarding the existence of Jesus Christ since there is no ancient monument proving he had lived, this fact must serve as a lesson for us.” His Eminence further reiterated the importance on protecting Islamic historic sites and monuments and added, “One must not destroy their cultural heritage the same way a school child tears his textbooks at the end of the school year, we must beware that future generations will need solid proof otherwise they will be skeptical of Islam’s reality.” Expressing his sorrow for the House of Saud’s 90 years of rule over Arabia and their vicious efforts to destroy all Islamic monuments with the excuse of eradicating polytheism, he asserted, “The only ancient Islamic monuments which exist to this date is the birth place of the Holy Prophet Muhammad in Makkah which has been converted to a public library now.” Reiterating that Saudis are demolishing ancient Islamic monuments in Makkah and Madinah with the excuse of operating development projects, Ayatollah Sobhani stated, “The maintenance of these holy sites should not be considered as a form of polytheism since it is a way to pay respect to these religious sites and to avoid future generations’ skepticism regarding the realities of Islam as a true religion.” “We have enough solid proofs and documents to back our ideas, but unfortunately scientists and their theories are under the influence of oil dollars and it causes them to propagate against Shi’ism and no one even bothers to listen to the truth of the matter,” he said. SHAFAQNA – During a meeting with a group of seminary students, Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, in addition to praying for success in their studies and propagation of Islam added: ’One of the miracles of the Holy Prophet (s) was his support for knowledge, the scholar and academic., as the era when he (s) appeared was an era of ignorance that was found everywhere. However, the Quran is full of commendation towards leaing and acquiring knowledge.’ In explaining that the first thing that was revealed to the Holy Prophet (s) was regarding knowledge and leaing, the Ayatollah added: ‘The first revelation to the Holy Prophet (s) emphasized on reading. This is an extremely important point in helping us to understand that to what extent Islam defended knowledge during the dark days of ignorance. Seventy verses in the Holy Quran were revealed about thinking, pondering and contemplation, and this repetition is not something we can glance over quickly.’ ‘After the Holy Prophet (s), his successor, Imam Ali (a) also greatly emphasized on this issue; as Nahj al-Balagha contains many of these traditions. For example in one of the wisdoms, Imam Ali (a) says that knowledge is superior than wealth; however, today wealth is seen as being superior to knowledge.’ By pointing to the main issue of society today, he said: ‘Today everyone is chasing wealth, and see knowledge as being the servant of wealth. Imam Ali said: “Knowledge has five qualities over wealth, one, knowledge protects a person, whereas wealth must be protected; two, when wealth is given it decreases, however, when given, knowledge only increases.’” ‘The third difference between knowledge and wealth is that when a person associates with someone because of their wealth, when that wealth goes, so does the association; however knowledge always ensures this association lasts. Maybe the reason is that the humans, who have to manage a daily program for enjoyment of their bodies, have not taken any notice of the other aspect of their natures, their spirits. We all are looking for something that calms our anxious mind, a peace and comfort which makes our lives enjoyable, but we are unaware of the fact that we would be comfortable only by satisfying our innate needs, those which have been with us since the time we were created. Mankind needs a great support, an infinite power to depend on, and no one has competence except Allah (SWT). People have forgotten Allah (SWT) or they have used to believe in a God who can do nothing… But if we look carefully to the people who are searching a refuge, we find a group who have found their refuge and become comfortable under the protection of this refuge. Shiites have confidence in Allah (SWT) and His alights, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) and his Family (Ahl al-Bayt) (PBUT).
